Intro

Are you ready to discover how collaborative digital tools can make learning more interactive and engaging?

“Wiki tools in the classroom” introduces educators to Wiki software and other collaborative platforms that can be used to support learning and creative classroom activities.

The course includes a variety of practical activities, such as creating open educational resources, discovering Wikipedia’s sister projects, and working with non-textual wikis, to support digital literacy and creative learning. No prior technical experience is required. Participants will gain practical ideas and approaches to take back and use in their own classrooms.

Who is this for?

This course is tailored for education, cultural and youth professionals of all levels – including teachers, leaders, counselors, mentors, extracurricular activity coordinators, and more who want to modernize their teaching.

No prior wiki or programming expertise is required. Just curiosity and a willingness to explore collaborative online platforms. Participants will benefit from an international learning experience while traveling with Erasmus+.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Work with educational materials: Use Wiki tools and open educational resources to explore different ways of creating and sharing learning content.
• Gain digital confidence: Build confidence in utilizing web applications and online cooperative tools effectively.
• Develop 21st-century skills: Foster critical thinking, collaboration, and creative innovation through the use of new technologies.
• Contribute globally: Learn how to contribute to global knowledge by becoming an active Wiki editor.
• Develop a simple Wiki project: Try creating a small collaborative project using the tools explored during the course.

Modules

• Module 1: Introduction to Wiki tools. Explore what Wiki tools are, how they work, and how they can be used in education.
• Module 2: Collaboration and critical thinking. Learn how Wiki tools can support collaboration and encourage students to think creatively and critically.
• Module 3: Educational best practices. Analyze good educational practices with wikis and evaluate diverse examples of successful wiki projects.
• Module 4: Exploring wiki platforms. Review examples of Wiki projects and discuss what works well and how they could be used in education.
• Module 5: Global wiki projects. Discover Wikipedia and its sister projects, learning how to effectively contribute to global open resources.
• Module 6: Practical application. Try out Wiki-based activities, adapt ideas to your own context, and share them with the group.

Equipment

Participants will need to bring their laptop to effectively utilize web-based tools and applications during the course.

Corfu is a beautiful green island, which enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate. Corfu is a very popular tourist destination. Up until the early 20th century, it was mainly visited by the European royals and elites. It is still popular with the global elite. The island’s history is laden with battles and conquests. Corfu was long controlled by Venice and repulsed several Turkish sieges, before falling under British rule following the Napoleonic Wars. Corfu was eventually ceded by the British Empire along with the remaining islands of the United States of the Ionian Islands, and unification with modern Greece was concluded in 1864 under the Treaty of London. Corfu is renowned for its long tradition and rich culture which is unlike any other Greek island. In 2007, the city’s old city was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you will also discover a compact world of beautiful beaches and stunning mountain peaks, ancient ruins and picturesque villages. There is something for everyone on the island, whether you prefer peace and quiet or a lively cosmopolitan destination.
