Intro
Differentiated Instruction refers to creating different pathways through which students with different abilities, interests and learning needs acquire knowledge of new concepts as part of the everyday learning process. It involves the efforts of teachers to respond to the different needs of their students in the classroom, with the goal of achieving the best learning experience. It also allows students to take ownership of their own learning and offers opportunities for active and collaborative learning.
The purpose of this teacher training program, therefore, is twofold; on the one hand, to familiarize the participants with the philosophy and pedagogical principles of differentiated teaching and on the other to provide the required training in order to plan and implement differentiated teaching programs for students of primary and secondary education.
Objectives:
In particular, the individual objectives of the program are the following:
a) to ensure a unified logic and understanding of the theoretical principles of Differentiated Instruction
b) to highlight the structural elements of the model, which aims at the inclusion of all students of a school class in the learning
process
c) to provide teachers with specific strategies and lesson plans in the application of Differentiated Instruction in various cognitive areas/subjects, e.g. Language, Mathematics, History, Environmental Studies, etc.
d) to provide practices and techniques of teaching to support every student with learning difficulties due to disability, cultural differences, e.g. Roma children or due to an immigrant/refugee background.
